Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 12, 2026
Who we are
Housing Stability Network ("we," "us") operates shared homes for people going through a life transition or housing crisis. This policy explains what information we collect through our website, our Housing Request form, and our Partner form, how we use it, and the choices you have. People who submit a request are often sharing personal circumstances. We treat that information as confidential.
Information we collect
When you submit a Housing Request, we collect what you choose to tell us:
- Contact details: name, phone, email, preferred contact method and language
- Location: your current ZIP code, city, and state, and where you want to live
- Your situation: what's happening, where you're staying now, and how soon you need a place
- Your household: who's moving, number of adults and children, sex for room and house placement, pets, smoking, and the type of space you need
- Rent: income range, income sources, what you can pay, and whether an agency or program may help
- Optional details: veteran status, access needs, and how you heard about us
When you submit a Partner form, we collect your name, organization, contact details, the area you serve, and your message. When you visit our website, our website provider may collect basic technical data such as your browser type and pages visited.
We do not ask for Social Security numbers, credit scores, medical diagnoses, or criminal history on our forms.
How we use it
- To contact you about your request, using the method you chose
- To match you with a space that fits your household, budget, and needs
- To decide where to open new homes, based on where requests come from
- To respond to partners and set up referral arrangements
- To describe the need for housing in combined, anonymous numbers only, such as "40% of requests come from Georgia." These numbers never include names, contact details, or anything that could identify you.
When we share it
- With your permission. For example, if you ask us to coordinate with your case manager or agency, we share what's needed for that.
- With service providers that run our forms, website, email, and records. They store data on our behalf and may not use it for their own purposes.
- When the law requires it, such as a valid court order or subpoena.
If you're placed in one of our homes, other residents will not see your request information.
What we never do
- We never sell your information.
- We never share it with landlords, agencies, or anyone else without your permission, except as required by law.
- We never use it for advertising.
- We never use protected characteristics such as race, religion, national origin, or disability to decide who gets housing. We follow fair housing law. We ask about sex only to place people in rooms and homes, and about access needs only to find a space that works for you.
How we protect it
Access to request information is limited to our team, through password-protected accounts. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect what you share, and we will notify you if a breach affects your information, as required by law.
How long we keep it
We keep request information for as long as it's useful for matching you with housing, and for up to 24 months after your last contact with us unless you ask us to delete it sooner. Anonymous combined numbers may be kept longer.
Your choices
You can ask us to see, correct, or delete the information you submitted, or to stop contacting you, at any time. Send your request through our contact form and we'll respond within 30 days.
People under 18
Our forms are for adults 18 and older. If you're under 18, a parent, guardian, or case manager can submit a request for your household. If we learn we've received information directly from someone under 18, we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here with a new effective date.
